BOTOX® For Other Health Issues

Botox injections are noted primarily for the ability to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles. They're also used to treat conditions such as excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) and may also help prevent chronic migraines.

BOTOX® FOR OTHER HEALTH ISSUES

Botox® for Other Health Issues

Botox® Cosmetic was actually developed for other health issues.

About 40 years ago, Alan Scott, an ophthalmologist tried a new way to help a patient who had undergone three failed operations for double vision. He injected a tamed form of botulism toxin, into the patient’s eye muscles.

Based on the very successful outcome, Scott became known as the father of what came to be named Botox. Scott sold the rights to Allergan in 1991. Allegan developed the drug to smooth facial lines and wrinkles.

Botox is also effective to treat chronic migraines, as well as hyperhidrosis (or excessive sweating).
